Every year the Galveston Island Humane Society has the "Barkus and Meow" Mardi Gas Parade to benefit the animals. This is the second year we've marched in the parade. Last year Faith had a great time marching in the parade with our dog, Lulu, and throwing beads.
This year was Skylar's very first Mardi Gras, first parade, and first experience with throwing beads. Faith and Skylar really liked seeing all the different animals in the parade. There were dogs, cats, goats, ferrets, birds, and horses. All the animals were dressed in costumes for the parade and they all looked great!
We dressed Lulu as the Queen of Mardi Gras. She wore a golden crown and a beautiful purple velvet cape with faux fur trim. Skylar dressed as the King of Mardi Gras with a red cape and crown. Skylar's crown had the same faux fur trim as Lulu's cape. Faith dressed up as a Dalmation Princess. These three were absolutely adorable!
The whole family had a great time. Faith sat in the wagon and let Daddy pull her throughout the parade. Skylar sat in the wagon and from time to time would throw beads. At one point during the parade Skylar had selected a pretty girl to throw his beads to. He threw them in her direction, but she didn't catch them. So, Skylar went up to the man that had caught the beads intended for the pretty girl and demanded them back. I think this surprised the man so much that he just gave them back to Skylar without much discussion. Skylar then proceeded over to the girl (around 16, blonde, very pretty) and hand delivered the beads to her. There were many smiles all around on those who witnessed this exchange. Skylar's already quite a charmer, girls look out. :)
