Skylar's Appointments

Skylar has had quite a few doctor's appointments since he's been home with his forever family. He has seen his pediatrician, his otolaryngologist (ENT), his ophthalmologist, his plastic surgeon, and had a sleep study done. Dear Skylar has had conscious sedation for CTs of his head/brain and face.

From all of these doctors appointments, examinations, and evaluations, we have received some positive news. However, Skylar will have to have a couple of corrective surgeries.

Through all of this Skylar has been a real trooper. He follows instruction, but there are times when his expressions of uncertainty just break my heart. It is easy to see from his actions he has become accustomed to accepting whatever is put before him and adapting to the situation, and just going with the flow. (His years of being at the orphanage, being institutionalized, taught him this behavior.) I love his brave little heart.

Below is a picture of Skylar at his sleep study. Skylar's Daddy went with him and Skylar was very brave and good and let the technician attach oodles of electrodes all over.

Skylar had on his favorite pajamas, had his favorite soft woobie (blanket), and had his favorite blue bear. He went to sleep almost on cue, and the tech said he was able to get some good documentation from the sleep study.

Now, Skylar has completed all of the testing that was ordered, and next week we will follow up with all of Skylar's doctors to form our plan of action. By the way, all of Skylar's doctors came to us VERY HIGHLY recommended and have been very kind and patient with Skylar, and very supportive. We are blessed to be able to work with these physicians.

Most of all we are blessed to have such a sweet, loving son, with such a sweet soul.

  1. Skyler impresses me - he's what Marie and I call "an old soul" - able to find maturity beyond his years to cope with whatever as required. Way to go Skyler!! I've had a couple of those sleep studies too - worst part is getting the glue out of your hair!

Prayers that everything turns out for the absolute best for you guys -

    hugs - aus and co.
